The Agitator has a great post regarding the recent executive order allowing the seizure of property of those who seek to undermine our efforts in Iraq.
Here's a question that ought to be posed to every conservative defender of White House power grabs and the unitary executive:
"Is this a power you'd also be comfortable granting to a President Hillary Clinton? John Edwards? Dennis Kucinich? If the answer is any sort of qualified "no," you may safely assume you're talking to a party hack. Thanks in large part to public reaction these very power grabs, it's also a question that's becoming less and less theoretical.
On the other hand, it will be fun to watch the lefties and righties switch places on these issues and throw their own arguments back at one another. I figure we'll start seeing it when Hillary tries to assert executive privilege the first time her administration gets hit with a scandal. I'm guessing around 2010 or so.
Hope Google's cache servers are backed up.
This especially rings true given the rhetoric surrounding the recent Democratic attempt at a filibuster. I think this should be the golden rule of politics, do not grant power that you are uncomfortable handing to the other party...
